The Federal Government has issued a travel ban on 13 countries over the COVID-19 pandemic.


The Secretary to the Government of the Federation Boss Mustapha made the announcement at a media briefing on Wednesday.

Nigeria Legislature Proposes 10-Year Jail Term For Generator Importers, Sellers

A bill has been proposed in the Senate to sentence anyone who imports or knowingly sells generating sets in the country, to a 10-year jail term.



The proposed legislation titled ‘Generating Set (Prohibition/Ban) Bill 2020’, on Wednesday, passed its first reading. Its purpose is to curb the menace of environmental pollution which leads to potential health hazards to the population.

The Federal High Court in Lagos on Thursday convicted a former governor of Abia State, Orji Kalu, of N7.1bn fraud and sentenced him to 12 years’ imprisonment.

“That whilst he held the aforementioned position, the common pattern was that after payment of monthly allocation by the Federal Government to the Kwara State Government, a cumulative sum of not less than N100m will be deposited into the Kwara Government House account. “That upon the payment of the said N100m, same will, in turn, be withdrawn in cash by one Mr Afeez Yusuf from the Kwara State Government House, Ilorin’s account in bits and brought to the Government House.”



The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Monday secured an order of the Federal High Court in Lagos for the forfeiture of two houses in Ilorin, Kwara State belonging to a former Senate President, Bukola Saraki.

“Ideally, AMCON does not in the first instance resort to the courts except when the obligor defiles all overtures from the corporation for a peaceful resolution of an obligation. But the case between AMCON vs Ademola Seriki eventually ended up in court because all efforts made by AMCON to have the issue resolved peacefully did not yield the desired result".
 


The Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON) has taken over some properties belonging to Ademola Seriki, a former minister of state for defence, for debts totalling N1 billion.
